More than 58,000 runners took part in this year’s Berlin Marathon anniversary race – more than ever before! The race was exciting right up to the finish line: Ethiopian Mengesha prevailed in a thrilling final and won in 2:03:17 hours. In the women’s race, Tigist Ketema, also from Ethiopia, triumphed with a strong start-to-finish victory in 2:16:42 hours. The conditions were perfect and the atmosphere electric: around one million spectators gathered along the route to cheer on the runners.
The VIP lounge at the finish line was also buzzing: over 450 guests from politics, business, sports, and the media enjoyed the exclusive marathon brunch prepared by Hoflieferanten Berlin. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, Andreas Statzkowski, President of SCC e.V., and Stefan Teuchert from BMW gave short speeches there.
There was plenty on offer in terms of cuisine throughout the day: from the obligatory egg station with a selection of breads from the Viennese house bakery, various spreads, and a selection of cheeses and sausages, to hearty boiled beef and pulled chicken with pineapple and coriander chutney, to vegan cauliflower and lentil curry – the buffet left nothing to be desired. The popular waffle stand was constantly surrounded by people. Sweet highlights such as crème brûlée and panna cotta as well as various sheet cakes rounded off the offerings.
After this sporty weekend, we also had many kilometers in our legs. But every year, the Berlin Marathon is a very special experience for our kitchen and service team!
