The Bode Museum is part of the ensemble of buildings on Museum Island and is therefore a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Commissioned by Kaiser Wilhelm II and built between 1898 and 1904, it is now home to the sculpture collection, the Museum of Byzantine Art and the Coin Cabinet.
For special occasions, the Bode Museum opens its doors after regular visiting hours and welcomes guests as an attractive venue for events. It provided the perfect backdrop for the reception held as part of the IDU Forum 2022 on 24 June.
The 150 international guests naturally focussed on personal interaction. But our menu was also impressive and tasty. As always, it came fresh and seasonal from the farm to the city:
At the reception, we served gorgonzola tartlets with pear, tartare of field fruit with horseradish, tomato “Bienenstich” and dry-aged beef tartare.
As a starter, guests enjoyed smoked fish or mushroom ravioli in basil sauce with semi-dried tomatoes. For the main course, there was a choice between fillet of beef or spinach and chickpea tartlets, each with smoked portobello and Hasselback potato with chilli sour cream.
Refreshment came with dessert: summery lime cream with pistachio and apricot.
Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg (reigned 1640-1688) watched the proceedings from his four-metre-high equestrian statue and would certainly have been amazed at the serious global issues being discussed at his feet.
