Tempelhof Airport – in the air tonight

Tempelhof Airport is one of the largest architectural monuments in Europe. It was built between 1936 and 1941 and symbolises the monumental self-presentation of the National Socialists – but has also become a symbol of freedom thanks to the airlift of 1948/49. Since the end of air traffic in October 2008, the airport building has been used for a wide variety of purposes.

In mid-March, we catered for the staff party of a Berlin software company in the departure hall. In keeping with the historic location, the agency in charge, Grand Concept, had devised the motto for the 330 guests “in the air tonight”.
In addition to the aperitif, which was served from original Lufthansa flight cases, there was of course also plenty of tomato juice…

The starter was hidden in a care package in memory of the Berlin blockade, but contained no dried fruit or tinned meat, but delicious little delicacies such as lamb’s lettuce with potato dressing and smoked Barbarie duck breast, Brandenburg goat cheese “Bienenstich” with watercress and smoked tomato tarragon sugo as well as ceviche with passion fruit leche de tigre.

The internationally inspired buffet made stops in Europe with poached cod on fermented cabbage and spinach ravioli, in North America with Cajun chicken breast and beef brisket, in Latin America with vegetarian enchiladas and in Asia with a ramen station and mie noodles with wok vegetables. The delicious desserts also followed international recipes – but of course the ingredients all came from our region.

The guests enjoyed an unforgettable evening with show interludes, a magician, dance floor and cocktail bar.
