Description: The Alte Nationalgalerie is the original home of Berlin’s Nationalgalerie. Based on an idea by Friedrich Wilhelm IV, the building was designed by Friedrich August Stüler and constructed between 1866 and 1876 under the direction of Johann Heinrich Strack. Raised on a high plinth and inspired by classical temple architecture, it forms the centrepiece of Museum Island.
The architecture leads from the forecourt, with its grand staircase and colonnades, into a clearly structured sequence of spaces including the entrance hall, columned hall, sculpture hall and exhibition rooms. The collection spans Romanticism and Realism, Impressionism and works from the early 20th century. Together, the architecture and art create an event setting that connects the venue with the occasion without requiring extensive additional staging.
For receptions, dinners, evening events, special guided tours and selected corporate formats, the available areas, guest capacity and event schedule are agreed individually. The specific options depend on the event date, the exhibitions on display, the requirements of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the needs of the respective format.
